Do you ever get that restless “I’m bored with my website” feeling? Do you feel the urge to re-do the entire thing because you saw something cool on another site? Yeah me too…
Well thankfully, you don’t always have to. Before you go gung-ho into a full revision lets look at 4 quick ideas that you can use to freshen up your website today.
1) Update Photos:
How long have you had that about page photo? Too long? Update it. Show your site visitors who you are today not 2-3 years ago. As a business and/or as a blogger even a year is long in internet years so it’s okay to update that regularly.
And how about your home page slider? When is the last time you changed the pictures? When you go to your site, do you even see it anymore? If not, that is a sure sign it’s time to change them out.
2) Add a New Blog Post:
Take a look at your blog feed, how old (or new…) is your last blog post? Great, add a new one. Now take it one step further & schedule your next post. Post new content on a regular consistent basis. Especially if your blog feed shows up on your home page. That simple act of adding a new blog post adds new content and images to your home page. (I’m working on taking my own advice on this one!!).
3) Clean Up Your Sidebar:
Sidebars can end up being like the junk drawer in the kitchen. It becomes a catch all for “random, not sure where to put it” information and graphics. So go back and take a nice long look at your sidebar and make a list of what is old, what no longer applies, what is distracting, or out of place. Now remove everything you can live without.
A busy sidebar is a distraction and an eyesore. This simple action step alone can breath fresh life into your site.
4) Create A New Optin Offer:
How long have you had the freebie offer on your site? Unless it is still converting extremely well, it is probably time to change it. It doesn’t have to be a major freebie that takes months to produce. It can be a checklist you find helpful, a questionnaire you use with your clients, or an audio from a recent interview. Create a new sign-up box or a new pop-up with your new offer and a add a nice looking graphic to go with it.
These tips will not take a huge amount of time nor will they give you a completely new looking site. It can however, look different enough now to grab your visitors attention and scratch the “revamp your website” itch until you are ready and able to tackle a project of that size.
You don’t even need to tackle all 4 today! Just pick one and get started with it then pick another one next week. Websites are a work in progress and are never done… it’s okay to pick your battles and start where you can.
