Foundation of Your Security Habit – Akismet
The Akismet plugin comes standard in any new WordPress installation, it’s that important. It is an effective defense against comment spam and also coordinates with several form plugins to protect against automated forms being sent as spam through your website as well.
There are a number of other plugins out there to help handle spam but in my experience this one is the best maintained and works the best of anything else out there. Plus it is developed through WordPress itself – they know what they are looking for in terms of protection against comment spam.
Using this plugin is just the beginning of laying your security foundation but it is an excellent place to start.
